Infomercial exercise gadgets ripped by Consumer Reports

But neither of them is worth the money, Consumer Reports is reporting.

The Ab Circle Pro claims using its system “just minutes a day” will help you drop 10 pounds in the first two weeks. your stomach will be flat and firm in weeks, not months, the commercial claims.

Consumer Reports had 13 people test the device, and only three said they would buy it ($200 or a 30-day trial for $14.95 plus $34.50 shipping and handling). the magazine said weight loss would happen by following the strict nutrition plan that comes with the Ab Circle Pro rather than using the machine, which burns calories at the equivalent rate of a brisk walk.

The Ab Rocket, which costs $99.99, claims it will “zap love handles and turn that spare tire into rocket-hard abs.”

The Ab Rocket’s chair shape lets you “just sit and relax” while the resistance helps push you up, the commercial claims.

All that help won’t aid your abs, though.

Consumer Reports found Ab Rocket works your abdominal muscles less than a regular crunch, which costs nothing and can be done virtually anywhere.
